I love You So Hard by Ross Butter, graduate of Edinburgh College of Art

Who?
I Love You So Hard was animated and directed by myself, Ross Butter. The short was written and narrated/screamed by Joel Veitch of Rathergood.com and Ed Snow provided the smooth samba music.

What?
A slightly unhinged and obsessive lothario attempts to seduce his unfortunate love interest by detailing his bizarre and terrifying fantasy of how far he’d go in order to prove his feelings for her – stripping naked and engaging in a mid-air battle with a rhinoceros.

Why?
This is the fourth and final episode in the I Love You So Hard series, made with Joel Veitch for Rathergood.com and also as part of my graduation project from Edinburgh College of Art. According to Joel, this is the true story of how he seduced his wife. Stylistically, I’m inspired by a broad range of traditional 2D work, from the Fleischer shorts of the 20s and 30s, all the way up to contemporary independent animations and internet cartoons.

How?
All the animation was drawn by hand on A4 paper using pencils, pens and coloured crayons. Each frame was photographed using Dragonframe Stop Motion, then a tiny little bit of Photoshop and After Effects trickery was needed to add the backgrounds to the scenes.

Next Project?
After working freelance non-stop for the past two years, on top of my studies, I’m utterly exhausted. My plans for the immediate future are to have a couple of months for myself, to rest and to work on my own personal projects. Then I’ll take it from there.
