What?

A seal pup’s irrational fear of the sea is helped by a little girl who doesn’t quite understand the situation.

How?

The film was a combination of Flash and Photoshop, with some nice After Effects touch up at the end. The colour work was done in Flash to bring a boil to the animation. I wanted the film to feel slightly organic, like it was draw with pen. A lot of the film was inspired by children’s book illustrations and I wanted to bring as much of that in a possible.

The scene with the seal, Pup, wrapped in the ball of clothing was done by making a rough textured CG ball that we then rotoscoped, so we could keep the patterns of the various clothing consistent. It turned out pretty swell!

Next Project?

Since graduating I have been doing a lot of freelance with various companies, from making promotional videos to doing clean up work.

My dream is to ether work on a cartoon show or in video games. Anything with interesting characters and a dedicated team and I’d be thrilled to be apart of it.

Which Film do you wish you could have made?

I’d be pleased as punch if I made something half as good as Wall-E. That film has so much subtle acting and strong emotions. Some of the best world building in a mainstream animated film and it doesn’t treat it’s audience like idiots.
