Kcal

May 1st, 2014Student Showcase

Kcal by Benjamin Bauchau, animation student at Supinfocom in France.

What?
“A man follows a trail of trash in an arid desert and keeps on collecting those while he’s getting closer to a hill…”

Why?
What inspired me is the idea of people living their lives throughout everlasting schemes and cycles, without questioning their existence. It is here put with an ironic touch of humour but the subject isn’t supposed to be funny.

I couldn’t really say that animators or artists inspired me for this short. It came out kind of naturally but I sure do get influences in my drawings during the preproduction from artists like Schiele, Klimt, CRCR, T Wei, Gerhard Human, and many more.

How?
I’ve made this short on my own, using Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, Nuke and Avid.

Next Project?
As for the next project, for my last year at Supinfocom I will be the director of a shortfilm that tells the story of a lonely shepherd who discovers a lamb that will shatter the promiscuity between the shepherd and his herd, and ruin their lives. It’s an allegory of Hatred.

Which animated film do you wish you had made?
If I had to pick an animated film to work on, it would definetely be Spirited Away.
