Mommy says 'come home'

Mommy says ‘come home’ by Tal Rachmin. Third year student from Bezalel, Academy of Art and Design. Tal answers some questions on his short below…

Who?

This is my 3rd year animation project in Bezalel, Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
I worked alone on this project, save some minor guidance from a couple of my teachers.

What?

This film is about a couple of siblings and a mystery revolves them. This short was supposed to look as though it belongs to a larger project, like a scene from a film, where you sort of want to know the rest.

Why?

This film just came to me I guess. It stared with the characters. I made two characters that resembled on another, a boy and a girl, and I decided they should be siblings and have some issues with the world around them.

I get inspired from a lot of things. I like the works of Andreas Hykade and a lot of the student work that comes from Europe these past years is just amazing.
When I think of animation I tend not to do other people’s style but I try to take a different approach, I think of it as ‘drawn cinema’.

How?

The film was made entirely with a computer and tablet. Meaning, classic animation drawn in photoshop and added in-between frames in a TVpaint. Came back to after affects to put everything together.

Next project?

Next project is my thesis film this coming year at the academy. I really look forward to it.

Which animated film would you like to have made?
Like I said, I like Andreas Hykade’s work, and also Daniel Sousa is a great artist. I would love to be able to make films as sharp and emotional as he does.
