BAA Winners
Last night saw the winners of the BAA awards at the BFI in London. The biennial awards honour the best in British animation over the past two years. Amongst the winners were Aardman Animations, Harry Potter, the Quay Brothers and Gorillaz.
The evening also say Paddington Bear announced as Britain’s favorite ever animated character. The bear beat off stiff competition from the likes of Wallace and Gromit, Bagpuss and Super Ted. Created by Michael Bond, Paddington first hit our screens in 1975, named after the station at which he was found, Paddington is famed for his love for Marmalade sandwiches.
Guinness record breaking Nokia: Dot and Nokia: Gulp both picked up awards for Aardman Animations. The commercials directed by Sumo Science took the awards for Best Commercial: Stop Motion and Best Commissioned Animation.
Grant Orchard, who will be fielding questions at our next Show Me The Animation night on the 3rd of April, rounded off a successful award season picking up the award for Best Short Film for A Morning Stroll produced by Studio AKA.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: The Tale of the Three Brothers sequence picked up Best Film/TV Graphics. Whilst The Gruffalo’s Child and the Quay Brothers’ Maska took joint first place in the Best Long Form category
The Best Student Award, in which all the nominees were from the Royal College of Art went to Mikey Please for Eagleman Stag.
In the Public Choice categories voted for by the public at over 20 screenings across the country Bertie Crisp by Francesca won the Best Short Film, Gorillaz: Stylo took the Best Music Video and Pilsner Urquell Legends: The Day Pilsner Struck Gold picked up Best Commercial.
