What?
VANESSA LEE & YOON SUN: Illusion is a story about a young boy who lives in a gumball machine, curious about what lies beyond its walls. He creates a flying vehicle to escape this undesirable lifestyle. Not knowing what lies ahead, Caleb will go on an adventure where he will soon discover a whole new world.

Why?
VANESSA LEE & YOON SUN: Visually we intend to make our final film with a unique look that consists of two dimensional and realistic feel. The goal for our film was to achieve a look and quality similar to feature animated films like Rise of The Guardians and How to Train Your Dragon. We are inspired by the realistic environments and textures they use in their film which is what we were going for the most. When we started brainstorming, we had so much fun coming up with the story ideas and concepts for our thesis.

Inspiration?
VANESSA LEE: Applying fine arts background to my new passion in 3D lighting, texturing, shading and compositing, I enjoys creating 3D art everyday. As a lighting, look development artist, I’ve got inspiration from Rembrandt, Norman Rockwell, Jeremy Vickery and Perdo Conti a lot!

VANESSA LEE : I am currently working on TV pilot as freelance 3D artist at Curious Pictures. I would love to make a short animation about environmental issues, including pollution, recycling, energy, health and more for the next project.

Which animated film would you like to have made?

VANESSA: I really enjoyed Pixar’s short animation “Day & Night”
