Chopped
Chopped by Nancy Tjokro, 4th year graduate film at Sheridan College.
Who?
Mainly me, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of a few of my friends and classmates and faculty to point me in the right direction. Caleb Chan created a wonderful musical score and the voices were generously provided by Omar Al-Hafidh and Victor Preto.
What?
A weary lumberjack finds himself tormented by a more successful colleague who will soon encounter a surprise he hadn’t bargained for.
Why?
I wanted to make a film with an environmental underlying to it, but I didn’t want to overdo it in a way that seems overdone in films, so I played around more with the idea of greediness.
How?
I used Photoshop for the layouts and Digicel Flipbook and Photoshop for the animation and worked with a cintiq throughout this process. I also used Premiere and After Effects for compositing. I wanted to create a bit of a simple graphic appeal to the style so I referenced some of Secret of Kells, Samarai Jack and a short film and book called La Mare Aux Têtards to name a few.
Next Project?
I don’t have any plans right now for my next project, but I would definitely consider making another short film if I ever have a good idea to spark me. At the moment, I’m continuing to draw whatever comes to mind.
Which animated film would you like to have made?
I wish I could be a lot better with animating and one film that stuck with me over the years was a short film called Orgesticulanismus by Mathieu Labaye. It has impressive animation and I could watch this over and over again and still be equally as wowed just like the first time I had watched it. It also has a powerful meaning behind it, which is also why I love it so much.
