Will by Eusong Lee

We asked Eusong Lee a few questions about his emotionally charged short film “Will”

Who?
Mainly Julian Kleiss as composer of the film and myself, doing all the animation, art direction and story.

What?
About struggle of a girl to deal with loss of her father by 9/11 incident.

Why?
This is a film that is for people who still lives on after loss. I thought the people who has left the world must also hope for people who are alive to get better and move out of grief. It was inspired by my friend Julian Kleiss’s music, which was also used as background music of my film.

How?
I storyboarded on music, first and tried to see the loss as innocent as possible. This film was all animated in flash and colored in After Effects. Backgrounds are done in phoshop. Animation was supposed to be sincere and succinct. Environments should be architectural and overpowering. I kept the rhythm and imagery as poetic as possible in terms of degree of exposure.

Next Project?
A film about balance in our lives.

Which animated film would you like to have made?

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
