Visual Connection by Theo Sparks, Carmarthen School of Art.

Who?

Just me (Theo Sparks) -I did have weekly tutorials with my tutor, Sean Vicary, his feedback and guidance was a huge influence on my work.

What?

This is my final piece in my final major project for my foundation in art and design. This is the result of my investigation into everyday surroundings.

For the footage of this piece I explored 2 different locations and environments, looking for things that connect together visually in some way, shape or form. Capturing various sound recordings of my subjects and using them to construct a fitting audio track was important in the project.

I then looked for key visuals in the footage, images that I thought captured the essence of the environments, which I then used to produce 2D animated sequences to include my own interpretation.

How?

After being inspired by lots of caleb woods work I eventually realised that motion can be ‘found’ and manipulated in different images through photography. just finding a visual link (e.g. a circle) and looking for that link in various places, while matching the composition of the previous image exactly, achieves a smooth motion through a variety of chaotic stuff that doesn’t link together, I also came to the conclusion of this technique after playing around with ways of animating in my last foundation projection ‘respect is…’ (can also be found on my Vimeo)

Next Project?

I cant wait to start experimenting more with projection mapping, recently found out about the technique and bought myself a pico projector, so many things to try out. Also In early September 2015 I will start my first year at Bristol UWE to study my BA in Animation Production.
