Menagerie
Menagerie by Julian Gallese, Vancouver Film School.
Who
I did the film all by myself, from concept and storyboard to compositing. Lee Hutzulak, an artist from BC, made the music and i chopped it up to fit the film.
What?
Its not a very straight forward narrative, but its about the dreams the bird in the water is having.. Then at the end he is in the shore, surrounded by some of the characters in the dream.

Why?
My main drive for making this film was making a film that really looked like my drawings, but animated. I didnt try to hide the fact that it was made on paper.
Some of the animators that inspire me are David Wilson, Chad vanGaalen, Sally Cruikshank, David Oreilly, Vince Collins, Marv Newland (which was my instructor in VFS) and some old stuff like Fleischer bros and early Walt Disney.
How?
The film was hand drawn on paper with pencil and then cleaned up with an ink pen, then i scanned everything (over 1000 drawings) and composited in toonboom and aftereffects.

Next Project
Right now im working on a lot of small stuff, some art projects here in costa rica, and some animation things independently, also planning a short film with Nata Metlukh
In the future i have no idea what will happen.
Which animated film would you like to have made?
The Thief by Richard Williams
