Fame, Fish and Farting by Slawa Rusin, Slawa spoke to us about the making of her autobiographical short film…

Who?
I came up with the story myself it is my short, animated, autobiography.
I wrote the script and animated it myself too.

What?
This is a story about a little Polish girl named Slawa (myself) who always felt a little different compare to other kids. She had a funny name and she didn’t go to Church every Sunday. When her bossy Mother decided to move her whole family to UK, Slawa’s life has changed forever.

How?
All of my work I do, whether it is painting, illustration or films, is inspired by my own experience and mainly by my rather dysfunctional family. My films are funny, full of toilet humour. I like to make people laugh not cry.

My favourite filmmakers are Sylvain Chomet, his films ‘Tripplets of Belleville; and
‘The Illusionist’ are amazing!’ British animator Joanna Quinn – I love her hand drawn
animations, and Tim Burton.

Next?
I am thinking of finishing my graduation film. It is also about a quirky little
girl who dreams of having a perfect family.

At the moment I am also animating in After Effects training to be a motion designer.

Which animated film would you like to have made?
‘Father and daugther’ beautiful French animation by Michael du Dok the Wit. Such a simple animation showing a relationship between a young woman and her father. I am very close to my dad myself so that film does have strong influence on me and I can relate to it.
