Congrats You’re Dying by Nicole Dorosh

Who?
Congrats You’re Dying is a graduation animation made by Nicole Dorosh at the Kansas City Art Institute

What?
The short is about a day in the life of a banshee named Alby. She, like most of her kind, has issues. Issues pertaining to death. When someone is about to snuff it, Alby has to not so subtly wail, glow, float and generally let everyone in the vicinity know, that death is about to come knocking. She can’t help it. It’s just who she is.

Why?
I have always been interested in mixing the fantastical with the mundane, ie supernatural with the every day reality of people in their lives. I draw inspiration from various animators such as Pendleton Ward, Rebecca Mock (more for her illustration style as well as animated gifs), and Rebecca Sugar.

How?
The film was made using Flash, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere and Audition. My style relies heavily on color and I will often use lineless characters and environments.

Next Project?
As I just finished this film in May 2014 and will be graduating (moving, finding a job, etc) it might take a little while to get back in the groove. I am, however, planning on some small looping gifs and character pieces that explore design, dimension, and aspects of various deities once I get settled.

Which animated film would you like to have made?
Either Monster’s Inc or Spirited Away
