Student Showcase: Biotop by Jolanta Bańkowska
Biotop by Jolanta Bańkowska, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
Who?
The music was created by Jack Hyde, everything else was created by myself. I have also big thanks for my lecturer Przemek Adamski for great advice during the process.
What?
Biotop is a reflection of man acting against nature. It reflects our relation to problems that exist somewhere else in the world, while not impacting our country directly. Often we only have contact with statistics and cold facts, that do not leave a long lasting impression on us. We are usually concerned about a problem only if it happens or can happen locally, near us. This is also my term work on Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
How?
It is mainly 2D frame animation. Idea, concepts and color script were created on paper. I wanted to keep the design very close to my hand-made works. Afterwards, I went digital and used 2D programs (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), sometimes with support from 3D (Cinema 4d). The sound and music were very important for me. I met Jack Hyde on vimeo and cooperated with him on this project after finishing the animation.
Next Project?
Now I’m working on my 4-minutes animation film which will be finished at the end of this summer. It is a reflection about modern life and, in contrast to Biotop, this film will be more personal, based on my own experience. Besides that, beginning in September I will be working on my diploma animation on Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Which Film do you wish you could have made?
Too many great films I wish I could have been part of.
