Natural Disaster by Joseph Wallace

Mark has just lost his job and his day is about to get a whole lot worse. A domestic tragedy
exploring the surreal nature of losing someone you love.

‘Natural Disaster’ is an animated film by BAFTA Cymru nominated, British animation and
puppetry director Joseph Wallace. The short explores the universality of loss through
fragmented cut-out animation and treads the knife-edge between comedy and tragedy.

Aesthetically, the film draws inspiration from the collages of Max Ernst and Jindřich Štyrský and
was pieced together almost entirely from French gossip and lifestyle magazines. The film was
made in France, in 2014, at a collective of international filmmakers Joseph co-founded in 2013.
‘Natural Disaster’ received its world premiere at Encounters Short Film Festival in the UK and
has since screened at many festivals including Bradford Animation Festival, London Short Film
Festival, Mecal Barcelona Shorts Festival, Athens Animfest and the 55th Krakow Film Festival.
