Cat in the Hat set for big Screen
Dr Seuss’ 1957 book “The Cat in the Hat” looks set for the big screen in a new animated feature. Universal pictures and Illumination Entertainment are developing the picture hoping that the box office success “The Lorax” is a sign that the audience is ready to snap up further adaptons of Suess’ world famous books.
The studios will be hoping an animated feature will fair better than the 2003 live action adaptation. Starring Mike Myers the film flopped and barely made a return on the $109 million it cost to make.
The Film will be scripted by Rob Lieber, and Chris Meledandri who has previously overseen the adaptation of Suess’ “Horton Hears a Who” whilst at 20th Century Fox, will produce the feature. The film will follow in the steps of the “The Lorax” and will be a 3D, CG animated film.
Illumination Entertainment is also said to be separately working on a Dr. Seuss biopic, with Johnny Depp attached to the lead role. The biopics concept is for a live-action film interspersed with animation.
