Toon Boom Harmony & Storyboard Pro Demo

At our last animation night held at the Cube Cinema, Bristol, we hosted an evening with Toon Boom. During the evening Lindsay Watson, Toon Boom’s UK representative, introduced us the company before handing over to Matisse all the way from Montreal who gave a fantastic demo of the Harmony and Storyboard Pro software. Toon Boom have kindly shared the full demo that was given on the night, which details many of the softwares features.

We also have an answer to the audience question regarding the ability to export to both After Effects and Illustrator detailed by Matisse below…

It is possible to export to both After Effects and Illustrator.

1) I have had experiences with going back and forth from Harmony to AE and back to Harmony on a personal project, and everything went fine as long as I was organized.

In order to do exports, they just need to connect a Write node to whatever Composite or nodes that they want to export.

Then, in the properties of that Write node, they can pick the extension of the exports.

They can do mass-exports by having multiple Write nodes set-up and just going into File>Export>Render Write Nodes.

See the image below. Multiple Write nodes each having a different extension. They will all be found in the “frames” folder of my scene folder.

2) For Illustrator, you would be able to export to it, but you would lose most of the vectors themselves. Let’s say that on a single Drawing Layer you have a small light green shape in the middle of a dark blue shape, the only vectors that would be seen are the ones of the outside shape – in this case it would be the dark blue shape-.
If you still want to export to AI, you can export as a .pdf.
