Triple Glazing
Triple Glazing by Lawrence Vincent, Second year student at the University for Creative Arts at Farnham. Lawrence talks about his film below…
Who?
I created the film myself at the University for the Creative Arts at Farnham. It was created during my first semester of the second year.
What?
This koala is intelligent, and by no means lazy. It’s closing time at the zoo and when it’s lights out this koala gets ready for action…
Why?
I wanted to create something really characterful and fun. It was to be a very short film (around 1 min) so I made the story as simple as possible. Therefore, I could focus on the character and the aesthetic style. The main inspiration would have to be the work of Aardman. I’ve always been a big fan of using big expressive eyes to tell quirky character driven stories.
How?
The film is a hybrid of traditional stop motion with After Effects. The Koala puppet was shot frame by frame on a green screen. The backgrounds, effects and lighting were all composited together using After Effects. I created the backgrounds on Photoshop using textures I had photographed and made.
Next Project?
I’m currently working on my next film. This one is to be 2 minutes. It’s a film in the same style and technique and is due for completion in early May.
Which animated film would you like to have made?
It’s got to be one of the Wallace and Gromit shorts. Probably, ‘A Grand Day Out’. It has been such a huge inspiration for me. There’s something really quirky and charming about stop-motion. For me the fact the audience can see fingerprints and imperfections just adds to the charm. I would love to work on a film like that one day!
