Student Showcase: #LINGO by Daniel Roque
#LINGO by Daniel Roque – IPCA, Barcelos, Portugal
Who?
Daniel Vicente Roque (aka Vicente Nirō), director, writer and animator of this graduation film from IPCA’s MA in Illustration and Animation in Barcelos, Portugal. Carmen Costa and Raquel Fernandes worked on the sound while Luís Magalhães and Eduardo Tavares did the score.
What?
A social criticism animation on internet addiction. To overcome loneliness and contempt of others, Lingo connects to social networks to get some companionship but briefly he’ll realize that online friends, likes and selfies do not bring happiness.
How?
The film was entirely animated in Adobe Photoshop, then edited in Adobe Premiere. The sceneries use some hand-drawn textures and reflect the main character’s mood – black in white when Lingo is feeling sad and solitary, then it starts to gain some color as he falls deep into the online world.
Next Project?
I’m working as freelancer in both animation and illustration, and thinking about what the next film would be – maybe another society satire.
Which Film do you wish you could have made?
Disney’s “Bambi” or Alê Abreu’s “The Boy And The World” because every single frame looks like a beautiful painting, and “Mary And Max” by Adam Elliot for the incredible script with both humour, cuteness and heartbreak.
