Think Like A Rainforest by Scriberia

Ecologist Mike Hands wants to put an end to ‘slash and burn’ farming in tropical regions of Central America. Inspired by the rainforest’s natural ecosystem, he developed an alternative system which gives tropical farmers a real alternative to the environmentally devastating practice of slash and burn, and a real hope for a prosperous future.

Mike’s Inga Foundation is launching a new campaign, AltForest, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of his innovative model across the tropics. Planting rows of inga trees, and farming beneath their canopy is, he says, all it would take to restore nutrients to the earth, halt deforestation, create greater food security, tackle poverty and climate change on a global scale.

Director’s Notes

AltForest commissioned a straight-talking, visually impactful animation that would not only demand the attention of an audience with the means to help, but would also carry a wealth of information about the problem and Mike’s ingeniously simple solution.

We used digital techniques to create a tactile, multi-layered, paper-craft aesthetic, which makes all the more visceral and impactful the depiction of the destruction and regeneration of the rainforest. Bold cinematic visuals, with dramatic scene transitions, help to convey the urgency of the message.
