NOW
NOW by Maria Chiara Argirò / My Elastic Brain
The NOW music video is the result of two people who haven’t met before trying to know each other. The video is a collaboration between Maria Chiara Argirò and Pedro Oliveira (My Elastic Brain). Maria had the following to say about the film.
I am an italian pianist and composer working and living in London. Pedro is a visual artist. It all started with a brief exchange of words on Instagram. I wanted to give a visual shape to my musical compositions and ideas and Pedro wanted to do meaningful work again after nearly 10 years devoted to advertising. Both of us felt the need to say something to the world and from that urgency came the desire to make a music video.
It would be virtually impossible without social networks for us to have started this collaboration. We were living in different countries and didn’t have mutual friends. There are many kinds of barriers that prevent people from doing work that is meaningful. In the age where the physical boundaries are gone, most of them still lie within us.
Soon after we began sending emails about what the song NOW was all about, ideas started to emerge and flow. It was kind of a loose process, not letting our self censorship get into too much.
The NOW music video is also the result of two people who haven’t met before trying to know each other. It was kind of strange but magical at the same time.
Every single frame of the NOW music video was drawn by hand with a digital pencil. It can be very time consuming, but also very rewarding. Especially in an age where mathematical perfection seems to be the holy grail of computer animation. Pedro Oliveira wanted to reflect my different moods and emotions when drawing each and every frame the animation, thus exposing many imperfections.
