I could have opted for a soppy love fuelled pick of the day today given its valentines day, but instead I opted for something just plain awesome. So prepare yourself for an excellent night of retrofuturistic, heavily Akira inspired street racing courtesy of Amsterdam-based illustrator Stefan Glerum and animation studio Crooked Line for DJ/Producer RipTide. Droning retro synth brings this dark, neon-tinged world to life, replete with a Speed Racer-esque lineup of colorful racers each with their own gimmicks to bring to the table.

Amsterdam-based illustrator Stefan Glerum teamed up with animation studio Crooked Line to create this animated music video for DJ and producer RipTide. Crooked Line was responsible for bringing Stefan’s illustrations to life for the first time.

Stefan Glerum made a name for himself in recent years by creating some exciting designs for Obey, Adidas, Pirelli a.o. But he also came up with a continuous body of independent work featuring odd characters, sometimes with lots of boastfulness, and always with a good dose of tongue-in-cheek humour. His work is inspired by early illustration styles like Bauhaus and Art Deco with a twist on popular themes. Alongside, music is also a big source of inspiration to Glerum, which in the past resulted in some great collaborations with bands and producers, both national as international.

Crooked Line is an Amsterdam based motion design studio. Seamlessly combining animation, illustration, 2D and 3D, they find a unique approach to each project.
