Phantom Power by Persistent Peril.

Persitent Peril teamed up with Full Time Hobby for a second time to create the official music promo for Diagram’s track ‘Phantom Power’. In the video we follow a man sore from a recent break up, as he travels to a secluded clearing in the woods and opens portals to his past in order to reflect on his relationship.

Speaking about the video Producer Sam Bourner said We had the song for a few mouths before starting the video, which was great as we got to know it well. We don’t like to think too much about an idea before we have heard the song multiple times. Each song tells its own story, and Garth was the one who ‘found’ Phantom Powers tale. It was a little different at first, as the ‘boy’ was also in the memory portals, and most of the story focused on him waking to a world with multiple versions of himself trying to win the girlfriend back. Once we started to flesh it out to the music, we decided that the relationship was the most interesting part, and decided to pull the focus in to that idea instead.

Graphically we wanted to try something new and play with a more illustrative look, like a series of book jackets or posters. The black space around the action really felt encompassing and keeps the focus on a few select details. As the song is so emotive we knew the characters would need to have expressive eyes to carry the story. We love the acting and design of David O’Reilly’s characters, particularly in Please Say Something, with their large eyes and subtle movements.
