Respected British animator Run Wrake has sadly passed away aged 47. The sad news was broken by Run’s wife Lisa Wrake;

“It is with incredible sadness that I have to let you know that our darling Run passed away very suddenly at 5am on Sunday morning as an end result of his cancer. He had spent a beautiful Saturday with his two children Florence and Joe, his sister Fiona and myself. We left him at 7pm doing what he loved best- drawing and animating with peg bar and paper.
I was with him for his last moments. We love you Run.
Lisa Wrake.”

Born John Wrake in Yemen in 1965, he studied graphic design at the Chelsea School of Art and then completed an MA at the Royal College of Art. He is probably best known for his acclaimed short Rabbit which won a host of awards and was nominated for BAFTA Best Animated short.

Alongside creating numerous film masterpieces Wrake also produced videos and live visuals for bands such as U2 and Oasis. Most recently in June this year he released “Down with The Dawn” a peice inspired by the period in which he was initially diagnosed with cancer, the film premiered along side a retrospective of his work at this years Ottwa Internation Animation Festival.
