Kids app Azoomee triumphs at National Family Business Awards
Azoomee, the tech company co-founded by husband and wife duo Estelle and Douglas Lloyd, has been crowned National Champion at the 2017 National Family Business Awards, held in London on 15th July. In addition to this prestigious accolade, Azoomee were also winners of the South East Technology & Innovation Award, cementing their reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting kids tech start-ups.
Azoomee is an app for children aged 5 to 9 which provides a safe and secure space for them to watch, listen, play, learn, make, do and share. Available on any mobile device, Azoomee offers films, TV shows, games, audiobooks and parent-approved chat, all in one safe place. No ads, no in app purchases. Backed by the NSPCC, the app also hosts the best videos, games, tutorials, learning content and audiobooks along with a packed creative tool box for this age group, all carefully selected by children’s media experts, teachers and parents.
Over 350 family business leaders and entrepreneurs descended upon London’s iconic Wembley Stadium for the event, which aims to showcase the most exceptional examples amongst the 3 million family firms in the UK.
The judges commented –
“We loved everything about the company – from the name which means ‘safe haven’ in Japanese, to the story behind the birth of the company and the lengths that the founders have gone to, to try to address the very real dangers that the internet poses for young children in terms of inappropriate content and security and data protection.
Instead of keeping our children away from the internet entirely (which is tempting for many parents) we liked their initiatives in seeking to educate and inform our next generation on how to be internet savvy and good digital citizens in a fun and an age specific way and the empowering of parents to understand, monitor and join in their children’s activities.
The founders’ desire for Azoomee to evolve also came across and we were impressed by the partnering with NSPCC and O2 to make the product accessible to all. Definitely a winner.”
Douglas Lloyd, Co-Founder of Azoomee says,
“Azoomee is a family business, made for families. Technology can be intimidating but it’s important that our children know how to use it. We want to help parents embrace technology for their kids, and the key to that is giving them something a product they can trust.”
