The Gruffalo wins Best Children’s TV Fiction Programme of the Last 50 Years

GruffaloMagic Light Pictures’ multi-award-winning film The Gruffalo was awarded at the 2014 Prix Jeunesse International awards held in Munich last night.

The Gruffalo won a special Prix Jeunesse 50th anniversary award: The Best Children’s TV Fiction Programme of the Last 50 Years, cementing its status as a true children’s classic in its own 15th anniversary year.
Magic Light’s films have picked up a raft of prestigious awards and nominations and have received three Oscar nominations in the past four years. Michael Rose and Martin Pope, co-founders of Magic Light Pictures, produced The Gruffalo.

First broadcast in the UK on BBC One, Christmas Day 2009, the film was seen by over 10m viewers, then nominated for both an Oscar® and BAFTA Film Award. A companion film The Gruffalo’s Child premiered on BBC One Christmas 2011 to 10m viewers. Together they have sold over 700,000 DVDs in the UK, and Magic Light’s distribution arm has sold the the films to over 80 broadcasters and 180 countries worldwide including USA, Germany, France, Scandinavia and Australasia.
