BAFTA Nominations: Animation

This years BAFTA nominations were announced earlier today, giving us both the nominations for the Animated Film category and the Short Animation category. The awards ceremony is just under a month away so don’t have much of a wait until we know the winners. In the meantime here are three nominations in each category.

Animated Film

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN – Steven Spielberg

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is the first in the series of 3D motion capture films based on the iconic character Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure.

ARTHUR CHRISTMAS – Sarah Smith

Set on Christmas night, the story of Arthur Christmas at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child’s question: ‘So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?’

RANGO – Gore Verbinski

Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

Short Animation

ABUELAS – Afarin Eghbal, Kasia Malipan, Francesca Gardiner

In a small apartment in Buenos Aires, an old woman eagerly awaits the birth of her grandchild and all the joys of becoming a grandmother. However, horrific circumstances mean that she will be forced to wait for over 30 years. Using real-life testimonials this animated documentary raises issues of memory, repression and loss.

BOBBY YEAH – Robert Morgan

Bobby Yeah is a petty thug who lightens his miserable existence by brawling and stealing stuff. One day, he steals the favourite pet of some very dangerous individuals, and finds himself in deep trouble. He really should learn, but he just can’t help it.

A MORNING STROLL – Grant Orchard, Sue Goffe

When a New Yorker walks past a chicken on his morning stroll, we’re left to wonder which one is the real city slicker…’Based loosely on a real life event recounted in Paul Auster’s brilliant book ‘True Tales of American Life’, ‘A MORNING STROLL’ tells the story of one New Yorker’s early morning encounter with a chicken, an event that plays out over 100 years.
