Feb 27th, 2012Off The Press

All the glitz and glamour has come and passed and now all the months of debate have ended, as last night saw the winners of this years Oscars announced. In the film categories everything went rather predictably, but over here we are more interested in the Animation categories.

Gore Verbinski’s “Rango” won for Best Animated Feature, beating the competition in the shape of “Puss in Boots” (Chris Miller), “A Cat in Paris” (Alain Gagnol, Jean-Loup Felicioli), “Kung Fu Panda 2″ (Jennifer Yuh Nelson) and “Chico & Rita” (Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal).

In the Animated Short category it wasn’t to be for the home grown Studio AKA nominated for Grant Orchards “A morning Stroll”, which was beaten by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg’s “The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore”. Others nominated in the category were “Dimanche/Sunday” (Patrick Doyon) and “Wild Life” (Amanda Forbis, Wendy Tilby) and Enrico Casarosa’s “La Luna”.

“The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore” is also available on the iPad, as a wonderful interactive book, check out the trailer below…
