ANOMALIA create a short film in 10 days only!
Fifteen animators from eleven European countries, under the guidance of experience director Kenny Roy, produced a professional 3D short film in just two weeks. The film project called “Booty Call” took place in Litomyšl, Czech Republic.
It was an unusual and innovative international production which came about in record time. “Booty Call” was created in the historic setting of Litomyšl castle. The production was in collaboration with the US based animation studio Arconyx and was part of a professional training program called ANOMALIA. Anomalia is run by the production company 3BOHEMIANS. 3BOHEMIANS have already produced an animated film Tele-Vision, which was selected by the prestigious festival Siggraph 2010 in Los Angeles. They are currently working on a new short film called Wildlife Crossing! Director Noro Držiak, the holder of the Czech Lion, for visual look for the film Alois Nebel, and Anthony Wong from PIXAR have confirmed their participation in the Short Film Making course in September, 2013. They will supervise and mentor animators during the course.
ANOMALIA is a professional training program in 3D animation. It aims to increase the skill level of professional animators, train classical animators in 3D animation, educate film producers and other technical experts in the area of modern animation by providing short expert on-site courses with top professionals from the industry. Thanks to the trainers from world renowned studios such as Pixar, Blue Sky, Valve, Aardman and other independent experts, animators from various parts of Europe get trained by ANOMALIA, thus increasing their employability. In 2010, the server Animation Career Review ranked the program among the TOP 100 best animation schools in the world. ANOMALIA organizers foresee that the future of professional training in modern animation will consist of a stronger combination of real production and practical training (the “Booty Call” project was a good example of this).
Kenny Roy has been in the animation industry since 1997. He has worked on iconic animated characters such as Scooby Doo and King Kong. Arconyx Studio was founded in Los Angeles in 2007. There Kenny directs projects for television, commercials and short films, as well as creating special effects and animation for feature films.
“Booty Call” was primarily an experiment that aimed to test various situations that could produce an appealing low budget film in a relatively short amount of time with a comparable quality to similar projects from our region. according to real possibilities. The film project verified critical milestones and typical factors in animated film production. The myth that it is impossible to produce a quality animation under such time-limiting constraints was refuted. The basis of the project’s success was the professional team management of animators, their motivation and commitment, and good project preparation.
