The Descent
This short is Based on a quote by Sam Pink from the novel Rontel and animated by Brandon Ray is part of the Single Sentence Animation series at www.electricliterature.com. Brandon is well known for his Paper People Jokes series through which he’s mastered the art of construction paper cut-out stop motion animation which can be seen in this short. Speaking of the inspiration for the piece Brandon states
“Naturally, Sam Pink’s novel was the primary source of inspiration. But stylistically speaking, I’d say I’ve got some Sean Pecknold, Luis Bunuel, and Eric Power mixed up in there somewhere.”
Created using Dragonframe, Frameographer & After Effects the short follows a young rats existential journey through a cave that leads quickly into the transition of adulthood, where he just can’t seem fit in. However, even though he yearns for the aspects of childhood, the world around him won’t accept him as a child anymore.
